1) In your own words describe your unique style and creative aesthetic?
I like bright, wild, and colorful but also appreciate things more subtle and muted. It’s great working with such varied customers; I can do some of everything and it never gets old.
2) When starting a new project, what is your creative process?
Getting a good idea of the customer’s vision. Lots of sketching, researching, experimenting, and communication.
3) Out of the creative people you have worked with, who is it that you respect and admire the most?
My coworker, Vicki Fowler. She’s taught me a great deal over the years from obscure part names to furniture upholstery. She has a variety of inventive uses for a single tool, enabling a small toolbox to become a treasure chest. One of the most important things I’ve learned from her is that there is a solution to any problem; you just have to think outside of the box and get creative.
4) When looking for inspiration is there a particular thing you do to get inspired?
I love nature and old buildings, especially European and Asian architecture and the sea. Travelling and looking through photos inspires me, as well as the work of my favorite artists.
5) What has brought you to this point in your career? And what is your advice for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
I give it my best and never turn down a challenge. Experimenting with new ideas has helped me grow my skills and enter new markets. Always put the customer first; creating good relationships is key to a successful business. Take risks and don’t be afraid to be different.
