1) In your own words describe your unique style and creative aesthetic?
I’m not a minimalist, that’s for sure! My home in Cary, NC embodies what I call “liveable elegance.” My furniture is traditional and I like to mix and match accessories that are both beautiful and functional.
2) When starting a new project, what is your creative process?
When I begin a new organising project, I consider proportion, scale and “mojo.” The best professional organising projects emphasize lighting and functionality while ensuring the solution feels right to the client and is easy to maintain.
3) Out of the creative people you have worked with, who is it that you respect and admire the most?
Most of my professional organising clients live in the Raleigh metropolitan area — home to just over a million people. It’s a small city, but it’s filled with creative people of all backgrounds: professors, artists, lawyers, CEOS, entrepreneurs. Through professional organising I’ve been lucky enough to work with and get to know many of these creative individuals. I respect and admire anyone willing to boldly share his or her unique perspective and point of view.
4) When looking for inspiration is there a particular thing you do to get inspired?
For professional organising clients I create beautiful spaces that also serve a functional purpose. I’m always inspired by the work of interior designers. A few of my favourite designers include: Jan Showers, Phoebe Howard and Mary MacDonald.
5) What has brought you to this point in your career? And what is your advice for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
My best advice to new professional organisers is to hire a business coach who knows the industry and can help answer specific questions. Avoiding mistakes when starting an organising business can save you a lot of time, money and stress — not to mention help you achieve your goals faster.
