Designer insights with Stephanie Marchetti

Stephanie Marchetti is a first time homeowner of the Little Green House in New England, which she is restoring with husband Matt and documenting on her blog Sandpaper & Glue. Stephanie established the blog to journal her vision for her new home and its ongoing renovation work. She impulsively bought LGH, despite it being in a state of disrepair and needing a lot of restoration work. So we are proud to bring you the Designer Insights of Stephanie Marchetti.

1) In your own words describe your unique style and creative aesthetic?

I love glam and all things glittery and gold, but am drawn towards wood tones as well because they’re so soothing. I try to mix the two.

2) When starting a new project, what is your creative process?

My creative process is a little insane- I sit on something until I find an idea I love so much I have to do it right now.

3) Out of the creative people you have worked with, who is it that you respect and admire the most?

My grandmother has a style I really respect- mine is definitely inspired by and came from her. She contact papered everything long before vinyl was ever the “it” thing, she has a gorgeous blue velour couch in her living room, she even sewed bell-bottoms for me when I was little because I was too short to get ones that fit at a store!

4) When looking for inspiration is there a particular thing you do to get inspired?

When I need inspiration, I get offline. I don’t want to copy everyone else, I want to find my own way- so I’ll go to a thrift or consignment shop and just see what pops out.

5) What has brought you to this point in your career? And what is your advice for people looking to follow in your footsteps?

I started my blog so my family could follow along with what I’m doing, and now I keep it up because I’ve found my passion. My advice is to do/write/create what you love, and put it out into the world with honesty and pride. The rest will follow.
