1) In your own words describe your unique style and creative aesthetic?
It’s really not about my unique style is it? It’s about how I bring my clients vision to reality by listening to their ideas and taking them outside their box. My client’s inspire me by offering a new canvas each and every time.
2) When starting a new project, what is your creative process?
Listening to my client’s in how they want to use their space. I also like to look at the space, it’s architecture, the views from the windows which to me should absolutely be part of the equation. For example a coastal community with a water view might inspire me to use elements and color palettes seen in the natural landscape. I believe in keeping the space authentic to its environment.
3) Out of the creative people you have worked with, who is it that you respect and admire the most?
The craftsmen that bring my vision to life. It takes a team to create the perfect job and without them to execute the details I have designed I would not be the designer I am.
4) When looking for inspiration is there a particular thing you do to get inspired?
I need to feel the space by standing in it and looking at all aspects of it. If you look hard enough at your surroundings they will speak to you and the perfect solutions will come. I never want my work recognized by me doing the same design over and over again. If I come up with a design in this organic way it will always be fresh.
5) What has brought you to this point in your career? And what is your advice for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
I get bored very easy so I have always searched for a project that completely takes me out of the box. This is very apparent in my biography. I am a licensed Interior Designer, a Certified Kitchen and Bath Designer, and lighting designer. My company specializes in whole house design, commercial designs and universal design. In 2010 I took my design business, Patricia Davis Brown Designs, llc. international by creating a network of design services. My virtual design company, Professional Kitchen And Bath Designs is a virtual room design company that allows me to work with anyone anywhere in the world on their room design through the use of a computer and skype. My online home furnishings company, PDB Home Store is an online home goods store with an Eco-Friendly and Clean Living section on it. My international design blog, Dig This Design is an international design blog about ALL things design. So, my advice would be to never stop stepping outside of the box and keep expanding your knowledge of design, to me that is what makes a great designer.
