1) In your own words describe your unique style and creative aesthetic?
I’m all about raw and edgy, but still super sexy! I definitely have an underlying masculine vibe, but women too can be seduced and fall in love with my spaces!
2) When starting a new project, what is your creative process?
It depends on the project, but often I just immerse myself into something like Pinterest to really have my mind wander around with thousands of ideas and inspiration points, then gradually start to refine the concepts I want to tackle.
3) Out of the creative people you have worked with, who is it that you respect and admire the most?
Recently I’ve had the good fortune of collaborating with several brands, and that has been such a fulfilling experience! The dynamic is so different when the project at hand is creatively almost limitless. I was able to design a kitchen for the introduction of a new suite of faucets from BRIZO called Artesso. I also have been developing a limited line of bedding with Butterfly Dreams, which launches soon! This is the same reason so many designers love to do showhouses, it is your voice heard loud and clear without a filter! Collaborative projects are also so much stronger having creatives all give their input to make a finished product stronger than any single mind could do alone!
4) When looking for inspiration is there a particular thing you do to get inspired?
As I mentioned before, Pinterest is a huge benefit to get your creative juices flowing, but beyond that it’s everyday life in New York City… To walk the sidewalk, and see the amazing fashion people are wearing, the graffiti sprayed on the side of a building, the old architecture and its details, it’s all happening around me! There’s so much to be inspired by in the world around us!
5) What has brought you to this point in your career? And what is your advice for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
Where am I in my career?!... I kind of feel like the perpetual new kid! I think there’s so much I want to accomplish, that I’m just starting out! I don’t really have a set end goal, and that’s why I think I’m still striving and working to discover myself in this journey of life! I’m so proud and grateful for all the opportunities that have found me, but I also know that there’s plenty more to come, so I’m just always on the hunt for “what is next in Tyler’s life”. Advice? Hmmmm, just do what you love. Try to surround yourself with people who believe in you and the talents that you possess… Everyone is so obsessed with comparing themselves to this, that and the other person, but the minute you obsess over how awesome you are, things are gonna start to fall into place.
