Jessica Rayome is a lifestyle blogger and home decorator, writing on her eponymous blog, from Louisville, Kentucky. Jessica has been decorating and crafting for years, trying to turn each of her houses and apartments into cosy and relaxed homes. She gets help around the home from her husband, who she’s been married to for over 10 years. 1) In your own words describe your unique style and creative aesthetic?
My style could be called rustic, chic. I like to mix comfort with touches of modern neutrals. I love color, warmth, and a home that feels lived in.
2) When starting a new project, what is your creative process?
I usually will stare at a space that I want to change and it will drive me crazy until I make the decision to start! I will sketch it out and make a list of what we need. Then I buy it all and pretty much don’t sleep until it’s done.
3) Out of the creative people you have worked with, who is it that you respect and admire the most?
Most definitely my husband. He supports all of my crazy ideas and just responds with, “what do you need my help with?” He helps build, carry, cut, and move from my successes, to my handful of Pinterest fails.
4) When looking for inspiration is there a particular thing you do to get inspired?
I love looking through catalogs, show rooms, and of course Pinterest. The biggest thing for me is not replicating a style, but taking bits and pieces that I like and coming up with something unique to fit my space.
5) What has brought you to this point in your career? And what is your advice for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
My friends and family are constantly pushing me and encouraging me. To try new things, like starting my blog a year ago, or starting to sell my décor online and in a local shop in NULU. My biggest piece of advice is to never be afraid to try something different. Having a creative outlet to contrast my career as a nurse has brought me quite a bit of happiness.
