1) In your own words describe your unique style and creative aesthetic?
I describe my style as Industrial Cottage - a hybrid that includes the worn metal, wood, and warehouse look of industrial with cottage style's cozy couches, natural fibers, a bit of color and pieces with history.
2) When starting a new project, what is your creative process?
I start with things that I have or have found and then I re-imagine them in a useful or beautiful way. It usually involves paint and it must be easy!
3) Out of the creative people you have worked with, who is it that you respect and admire the most?
Since interior design isn't my original vocation, I haven't worked directly with others, though I have been inspired by many, starting with Rachel Ashwell way back in the 90s who helped me see that everything in our homes is worthy of being beautiful if it's something we look at every day - like a closet or a drawer. That was a revelation to me - not only to do it, but that it really did make a difference to the way I viewed my world when I made an effort to use items that were not only useful, but also beautiful.
4) When looking for inspiration is there a particular thing you do to get inspired?
I think about a project for weeks, browsing Pinterest and blogs. I'm constantly inspired by what other people come up with - there's some crazy talent out there!
5) What has brought you to this point in your career? And what is your advice for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
Serendipity, since I was a preschool teacher before starting my blog in 2009. But I've always been a creative DIY-er and have had craft businesses on the side, so a lifestyle blog was a natural outlet for me. The opportunities that have come my way are a blessing, but also due to a lot of hard work, so my advice would be to work hard, do what you love and see where it takes you!
