Elisa Macomber trained at the New England School of Feng Shui and has a BFA in Art & Design from Frostburg State University. She has expertise in art, floral arranging and visual merchandising. Through placement design she allows her clients to master their home by utilizing colour therapy and decluttering techniques. Her purpose is to provide readers and clients alike with the skills to change their home for the better. So we are proud to bring you the Designer Insights of Elisa Macomber.

1) In your own words describe your unique style and creative aesthetic?
My style is a combination of zen simplicity and color, with rustic elements. I look to nature to bring it to the home and add a unusual décor piece or shock of color to delight the senses.
2) When starting a new project, what is your creative process?
I always start with the client's personal goals and issues to apply feng shui first to their home. Once I've evaluated what is causing the issue in the home, then we can begin the process of bringing in the design aspect to make it work for them.
3) Out of the creative people you have worked with, who is it that you respect and admire the most?
An interior designer that I used to work for, Mara Handy of Marais Creative in Great Barrington, MA – she taught me how to bridge the gap between feng shui and interior design, and helped me to gain more confidence in my own style and creativity. I've learned a great deal from her and thankful for her guidance!
4) When looking for inspiration is there a particular thing you do to get inspired?
I travel! Nothing gets my creative juices flowing more than seeing the sights of nature, people and of course, the décor and furniture shops along the trips. There is something about experiencing a new place that will bring sparks of ideas to my head!
5) What has brought you to this point in your career? And what is your advice for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
Making a home look and feel great has always been in my blood, so I decided to help others achieve that same feeling in their homes. Your creativity is a lifelong process, but don't give up on what fuels you and makes you go! And always keep a sketchbook or journal handy in your bag!
