1) In your own words describe your unique style and creative aesthetic?

My style is an eclectic mix of contemporary, mid-century and secondhand pieces. I love organised and colourful rooms that aren’t decorated too seriously.

2) When starting a new project, what is your creative process?

For a decorating or organising project, I always start with the functionality and think about what is currently not working in the space. From there I’ll choose colours and pieces based on the look and mood I’m trying to create.

3) Out of the creative people you have worked with, who is it that you respect and admire the most?

I have quite broad influences and each person I work with inspires me in a different way. Some with their use of colour or pattern, some with their development of a signature style and others who continually strive to innovate rather than follow. I have a lot of respect for anyone who’s making a living from their creative passion with integrity.

4) When looking for inspiration is there a particular thing you do to get inspired?

If I’ve lost my creative mojo, I find the best cure is to take a break and actually go and live my life. Coming back with renewed enthusiasm and fresh eyes does wonders.

5) What has brought you to this point in your career? And what is your advice for people looking to follow in your footsteps?

I’m a graphic designer by trade but have always loved decorating, craft and organizing so I began Atypical Type A to share those projects. It’s definitely a labour of love – don’t get into design blogging without equal portions of passion, commitment and hard work.
