How to measure for curtains

Knowing how to measure for curtains can prove difficult as there are a number of techniques available for getting the right curtain measurements for your poles and tracks. Here we cover a variety of techniques which are applicable to both ready made and made to measure curtains.

How To Measure For Curtain Poles

It is important to measure the correct rail width for curtain poles. Measure the full width of the pole between, but not including, the finials at each end of the pole and add 2.5 -3 cm to the curtain measurements for ease and overlap.

How To Measure For Curtain Tracks

Measure the full width of the track from end to end. If the aluminium curtain track is in two pieces which overlap in the centre; measure both tracks separately and add the two measurements together.

Measure drop for pencil & pinch pleat curtain pole heading on a pole

Before deciding how to measure for curtains you must first consider the type of curtains you are looking at. We recommend that you only use Curtain Poles if you are choosing Pinch Pleat Curtains. With ready made pencil pleat curtains you can use a Curtain Pole or Track. These curtains will hang beneath the pole, measure from the bottom of the curtain rings to the required finished length.

Measure drop for eyelet curtains

For Eyelet (also known as ring top or grommet top curtains) and Tab-Top headings, measure from the top of the pole to the required finished length. We will then allow a small amount on top of this length to account for the fabric that sits over the top of the pole.
