1) In your own words describe your unique style and creative aesthetic?

My style is artistic, colorful, classic. I appreciate versatility and double-takes. I like simple, streamlined, yet elaborate, sophisticated styles. The two can complement one another, like patterned pillows enhancing a monochromatic room.

2) When starting a new project, what is your creative process?

I start with a lot of visual references, then sketch, paint, and scan the images. Once digital, they can be reconfigured in multiple colors. Print tests are done for color accuracy.

3) Out of the creative people you have worked with, who is it that you respect and admire the most?

I’ve enjoyed collaborating with interior designers, Mary Douglas Drydale and Libby Langdon, and artists, Kristin Nicholas, Amy Finkle (MoRockAnSoul) and Ann Alger. They have all inspired me. Through Casart coverings I can share their work around the world. I greatly admire my former boss Mark Leithauser, Chief of Design at the National Gallery of Art for his exhibition-design knowledge and for his artistic accomplishments. He’s bridged the two successfully.

4) When looking for inspiration is there a particular thing you do to get inspired?

Interior design magazines, art-related websites, functionality and dichotomy provide inspiration, although art is everywhere. Inspiration often comes by surprise, that “ah ha” moment. Client collaborating also inspires.

5) What has brought you to this point in your career? And what is your advice for people looking to follow in your footsteps?

I started in illustration and painted decorative and faux finishes in clients’ homes for 16 years, both of which I still do. Casart wallcoverings enables me to share artwork more broadly. Ask lots of questions, research your field, and seek out others with expertise to advise you along the way.
