Jeanette Amstrup is the founder of her own design studio List Amstrup, which she has been running from Copenhagen, since 1994. Jeanette’s work revolves around moulding and sculpting, with inspiration coming from from the materials she sculpts with her hands. She has exhibited her ceramics at the Biennale for Crafts and Design at Trapholt Museum, and the Spring Exhibition at Charlottenborg. Jeanette also graduated from the Danish Design School back in 1994. So we are proud to bring you the Designer Insights of Jeanette Amstrup.

1) In your own words describe your unique style and creative aesthetic?
I like to work with the shape. I like round full forms that may be organic and asymmetric, but with tight curves and a natural balance.
2) When starting a new project, what is your creative process?
I just start working. I let my hands work intuitively, and then I analyze and try to make sense of my intuitive creations afterwards.
3) Out of the creative people you have worked with, who is it that you respect and admire the most?
I have worked with some very creative people. I admire and respect them all, both as friends and artists. It is hard for me to say exactly what it is I admire, but collaborations seem to strengthen both your weaknesses and strengths.
4) When looking for inspiration is there a particular thing you do to get inspired?
Mostly I just work. The material and working with my hands is inspiring, but of course I also find inspiration in things around me.
5) What has brought you to this point in your career? And what is your advice for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
My career has taken its path. The most important thing I have done is to continue working. If you want a career in this field, I think you must be stubborn, and I think networking is very important too. You need to try and show your work in as many ways you can, and be as good as you possibly can.
