1) In your own words describe your unique style and creative aesthetic?
My style is part vintage, part comfort, part modern mix-up. I love layers, color, and anything with history and character but I especially love the energy of mixing all those separate things together.
2) When starting a new project, what is your creative process?
Usually, I begin by assessing the scope of the project and then collecting inspiration. That can take place on Pinterest, in the pages of my magazine library, or my sketchbook. From there, it’s all a matter of roughing together ideas, analyzing them, and editing, editing, editing.
3) Out of the creative people you have worked with, who is it that you respect and admire the most?
I have tremendous respect for many of the creative people I’ve worked for. Bonnee Sharp of Studio Bon Textiles was the first designer to hire me out of school and I will forever be grateful to her. It was incredibly inspiring to watch her create such a high quality of work with limited resources. We were a small studio with lots of gusto! My friends and mentors Joslyn Taylor and Christine Visneau have also been incredible supports to me throughout my process of finding compelling, fulfilling creative work.
4) When looking for inspiration is there a particular thing you do to get inspired?
If I’m really in a rut, I’ll either take a nice long walk outside or call up a friend for some soul-enriching girl chat. Both do wonders for my creative juices!
5) What has brought you to this point in your career? And what is your advice for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
Too many things to list here! Failures, boredom, lucky happenstance, generous friends, lots of hard work, and endless networking (the really genuine, mutually beneficial kind). I’ve bounced around from sales to social media management to interior design and now styling. Along the way, I’ve been focused on listening to my intuition and the wise perspective of close friends. My advice would be foster friendships with people that inspire you to a higher standard and support you when you’re feeling lost. There will be lots of both!
