Eden Cayen is the founder of her own blog Eloise Moorehead, which she started back in 2009. Eden worked at a fine art gallery as a director of communications, but decided to switch careers by assisting an architect and interior designer. Since then she fell in love with interior design, and has even become an assistant interior designer. In her free time she works on her blog, and carries out freelance projects with her husband. So we are proud to bring you the Designer Insights of Eden Cayen.

1) In your own words describe your unique style and creative aesthetic?
I gravitate toward bold color, graphic patterns, mixing eras and styles, and have cultivated an appreciation for design dichotomies like punk/chic, high end/low brow, ancient/contemporary.
2) When starting a new project, what is your creative process?
Research and storytelling. What is the history and future of the project? Additionally, I devour images for inspiration. I start by creating a mood board and color palette, and go from there.
3) Out of the creative people you have worked with, who is it that you respect and admire the most?
Without a doubt, my boss. She is the most hardworking and dedicated person I have had the fortune to meet, let alone work for and learn from. She challenges me, teaches me, is patient with me, and allows me freedom as I grow.
4) When looking for inspiration is there a particular thing you do to get inspired?
I take great inspiration from the past - from the ancient/classical to more recent design movements of the 20th century. I delight in vintage design books, which are not that rich of an indulgence if you don’t mind hanging out in dusty old bookshops or combing the used book section of Amazon.
5) What has brought you to this point in your career? And what is your advice for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
Passion and networking are the most important factors in my career growth. Never slack in either area. Discover what you are most passionate about and keep nurturing that passion. And always be networking - you never know where people will lead you. I have almost zero formal training/education, and made a career change after the age of 30. Never stop learning new things.
