Using on-trend purple in your home
Rich, warm and elegant purple is one of this season's hottest colours and despite any previous conceptions you may had or still have, the ranges of purple that are available mean there's a shade or hue to suit all styles of homes. Deep dark aubergines and plums are ideal to use both as an accent or base colour – if you think the depth of these colours will make your rooms feel cramped and oppressive try using these gorgeous colours as a feature wall or for your soft furnishings and window dressings.
At the other end of the colour scale are the pale lavenders and light purples with red or blue undertones, which means they can be used to create a lavish interior without being too overpowering and can be used to compliment both pinks and blues to bring a softer look to your home. If you've never used purple before it's wise to start by introducing the colour via your accessories and soft furnishings – for example in the bedroom luxury bedding in aubergine will bring an elegant and refined look, team with soft creams or steely silvers so that the emphasis and eye is drawn automatically to your bed.
To help ground your new colour scheme purple rugs are an inexpensive, yet effective way to bring a sense of harmony to the room. In the living room or dining room plain plum curtains or patterned purple curtains will bring a luxury look. If you usually have plain curtains try patterned and vice-versa – you'll be amazed how this little change can alter the whole dynamics of your rooms. Matching or co-ordinating cushions, table lamps and table linen will bring a rich opulence – as the festive season approaches add metallics such as gold or silver to your table setting for a mature and very distinctive look which oozes chic styling.
