Modern Living Room Ideas: Using Imagination & Flair
Your living room is a place where you and the rest of your household relax. Most likely, it's also where you entertain guests, so it's very important to make your living room an inviting and relaxing place. You don't have to be an expert on interior design to give your living room a warm and comfortable look and feel. All it takes is choosing the right furniture, soft furnishings and colours..and a little imagination and flair!
Colour: All of the fabrics and colours you choose for your living room should blend together to create a harmonious whole. While colour schemes are obviously a matter of personal choice, it's best to avoid overly busy patterns and bright clashing colours which can make your living room a little less than relaxing.
As a rule of thumb, lighter colours (white, off-whites, light shades of blue and yellow) will make a room feel more spacious and open; darker colours will have the opposite effect. If your living room is very large, then darker shades may be a good choice and can give the room more of an intimate feel. Otherwise, lighter colours are generally a better choice for living rooms. This isn't to say that you can't use dark colours in your décor, just that they should be balanced out by lighter ones in order to prevent a smaller living room from feeling claustrophobic.
Flooring: The flooring in your living room makes a great deal of difference to how the space feels. Some people prefer carpet, but if you're one of them, try not to go with a very light colour which shows dirt easily. Light browns and other muted earth tones as well as greens and blues can look good without looking dirty the second someone actually walks on them. Hardwood flooring is popular and it is always a good choice for a living room, especially dressed up with a Persian-style rug.
These large rugs add an interesting and visually appealing contrast to a wood floor and can add a splash of colour to the room without making things look too busy. Light: You may not be able to do anything about the actual size of your living room, but if you find that yours still feels a little small, you can add some light and give the illusion of size by placing a few mirrors in the room. You can also opt for sheer curtains uk rather than heavy fabrics to allow more natural light into the room. For privacy you can always add a curtain lining which still shows off the sheers but in a more private way.
