If you prefer to keep your interior in a traditional English style this post is especially for you! One of the biggest trend's this year focuses on English Elegance and steers away from busy vintage or folk trends we have shown in our previous two posts. Beige, cream and white are being used for walls, flooring and textiles. These are then contrasted with dark-stained wood and wrought iron to create this elegant and sophisticated look. As a minimalistic approach is central to the style luxury is brought in by use of beautifully draped fabrics and antique touches for accessories. In the living room you should be looking for plush fabrics which fall gracefully – such as full length curtains made from luxury fabrics such as velvet, damask or those with a luxury satin sheen to them. Use Swish curtain track to provide an abundance of neatly formed pencil pleats which cascade naturally down to the floor. If you prefer the look of wrought iron choose metal curtain poles and curtain pole brackets. This elegant look as means you'll have to have an eye for detail in selecting your accessories; place an antique clock on your mantelpiece and look for old maps which can be framed in dark-stained wooden frames to compliment the rest of your furniture and furnishings. Distressed leather is another great option for furniture, if you don't like the thought of using real leather opt for some of the latest faux leather designs which are so 'life like' you really can't see the difference! In the bedroom also keep the central theme white and bring in the luxurious with plush duvet cover sets and king size bedding in a neutral tone. Buying bedding which is actually larger than your bed will not only mean there's more duvet to share it also means the bedding will fall over the sides of the bed giving it an elegant look without you having to buy a new bed! Again, use full length curtains in a plush fabric, stick to the neutral tones such as cream or ivory. Place cream rugs at the end rather than the sides of the bed for a truly refined look. If you have sufficient space include an easy chair in your bedroom which will also add to the sophisticated and elegant look. Don't forget to keep furniture dark-stained as this will help complete the look of grandeur and English elegance.
