60 minute makeover 2 – creating calming serenity

The team excelled themselves with this 60 Minute Makeover, turning a cramped, dull and boring spare room into a haven of peace and tranquillity, along with a multi-usage room which can now be used as a guest room, home office and a place to practice yoga. The room isn't very big. However, with the use of raw, organic design with a touch of oriental flair, using a zingy green for walls and bamboo printed wall paper the room instantly became visually larger and with an airy, calming feel.

The pale wooden flooring was complimented by wood slat Venetian blind sugar maple coloured to make the most of the natural light entering the room and enhancing the organic theme beautifully. Keeping furnishings and accessories proportionate to the size of the room provides a more spacious look which isn't overwhelming to the eye.

By using a bright zesty green as the main colour the accents of pale maple and cream combined to improve the overall look superbly. The team then moved onto the main bedroom, which had already had new wallpaper on the main feature wall. This enabled the designer to use the existing colour choices of deep red/purple hues and compliment them with an oriental black lacquer style.

From the overcrowded space the team transformed the room into a stunning place to relax and unwind. Black was used for all furnishings and accessories, including a bay window curtain pole in black from which plain, sheer pink curtains were hung to compliment the bedding set and wallpaper. Another brilliant success for the 60 Minute Makeover team who show how to create stunning rooms without having to spend a fortune on accessories.
