Re-Vamping Your Living Space - Mixing Curtains and Blinds
Have you ever asked yourself if curtains and blinds can be used together? Will mixing the two be a success or disaster? These questions call for some discussion, but evidently - mixing curtains with blinds and changing your window dressing can be a simple step to re-vamping your living space. If you are going to go ahead with this look then you need to be doing it for the right reasons to pull it off.
Mixing curtains with complimentary blinds
You should be experimenting with this idea because you actually like the effect of both working together and not because you couldn't make a decision between one or the other! You do want them to blend harmoniously and not be an obvious display of an indecisive design. You probably haven't seen many curtain and blind compositions on your travels - not surprisingly either as it is fairly rare in your average home. It could be a functionality trait, after all - who needs two things that are for the same purpose? This rarity though makes it all the more appealing to break the mould and go against standard design.
So it might cost you a few extra pennies - but imagine all the joy, individuality and energy it can bring to a home - not to mention that they will last you for a long time. Worth it! When installing curtains and blinds, pay attention that you place the blind to the inside of the recess and your chosen curtain poles on the wall above the window. Now this is easily done - not half as complicated as you first imagined right? Some people have a thing about how curtains can look when left open and drawn in to hang over wall brackets - this is a very feminine and elegant look.
Blocking out light throughout the day
Wouldn't it be a pleasure to have them like this throughout the day and still block out light and/or peeping Toms? By mixing curtains with blinds you can get away with this as your blinds will do the job of blocking the sunlight out and your chosen curtains are used more as a decorative addition to your window display. This combination also has the advantage of re-vamping a room and giving it an instant focal point or feature wall. The other advantage is the heightened control over the amount of light coming in.
There might be times when you want total sun block and at other times you wish to let a soft glow into the room. If this is the case, choose a light-diffusing fabric for the blinds such as voile or silk and blackout curtains. You can really play around with combining these two window dressings. Choose Roman blinds a beautiful design and curtains in a block neutral colour. Alternatively, go with neutral or block coloured blinds with a patterned set of curtains! If you like to be unique and creative with your interior design then you can open a lot more possibilities with window dressing by combing curtains and blinds - why not give it a shot for yourself?
