Vicky Silverthorn is the founder of her own organisation firm You Need A Vicky, working from London. Vicky draws from her experience of working as a personal assistant for ten years, a profession where she was constantly touring and then managing and organising people on a daily basis. She believes that home should be a place to relax and enjoy, so helps her clients to get organised within the home to achieve this. 1) In your own words describe your unique style and creative aesthetic?

I would describe my style as simplistic and uncluttered without necessarily being super modern or minimal. Another word I love to use frequently is friendly – we create friendly homes.

2) When starting a new project, what is your creative process?

I am always picturing the end result. I look at rooms over and over and take such pleasure out of making key changes in my head. How I can improve on people’s homes therefore their lives. I take lots of mental photographs…

3) Out of the creative people you have worked with, who is it that you respect and admire the most?

I admire people who design or develop their own homes. I think this is an incredibly hard project to embark on and I see many of my clients do it. What a personal and emotional thing to do as well as extremely hard work!

4) When looking for inspiration is there a particular thing you do to get inspired?

I am always just simply looking around me. Taking in storage ideas and room designs. I am in a different home every day so there is always so much to take in. I find I see something then adapt it in my head and work out how it could be improved on. Looking at badly designed furniture or built in furniture strangely enough inspires me no end.

5) What has brought you to this point in your career? And what is your advice for people looking to follow in your footsteps?

Happy clients who enjoy their homes again is was has brought me here. People spreading the word on an industry which many still don’t know is available. It can change people’s day to day lives dramatically. You put your heart and soul into each day. To be a professional organiser you need to believe it would quite simply make you happy to make others happier.
