1) In your own words describe your unique style and creative aesthetic?

My designs are inspired by the time-honoured techniques of theatre design and scenic art, combined with the innovations in digital print technology. A contemporary aesthetic, reflecting and enhancing natural light.

2) When starting a new project, what is your creative process?

Each design begins as an artwork, scanned into photoshop at a high resolution to create multi layered digital compositions. I work hard to maintain the integrity of the hand drawn line.

3) Out of the creative people you have worked with, who is it that you respect and admire the most?

My father Cliff Simcox. He began his career as a display artist, then quickly moved on to designing for television and theatre and also practising scenic art. I grew up helping my parents paint scenery in many of Sydney’s paint workshops. A creative, magical world of illusion, hard-work, dust and glitter. His philosophical and positive outlook encouraged my career in the arts.

4) When looking for inspiration is there a particular thing you do to get inspired?

Inspiration comes from the fine art world, often landscapes, and the challenge to capture and interpret light. Architecture- the idea of sculpting light by creating spaces, and the history of design in general. Everything comes from something that has gone before.

5) What has brought you to this point in your career? And what is your advice for people looking to follow in your footsteps?

Hard work, determination and a rich imagination. For me, following a creative path was not a choice. You have to enjoy the journey and celebrate when you can. Be persistent, be brave, be original and do it for you!
