1) In your own words describe your unique style and creative aesthetic?

I like everything to have an element of interest to it; whether it be color, texture or pattern.  Something has to surprise me about the décor I choose.

2) When starting a new project, what is your creative process?

I always think about what I want the final product to look like and how I will achieve that.  Then, I change directions multiple times throughout the process.  Rarely do projects go according to plan.  I always expect the unexpected.

3) Out of the creative people you have worked with, who is it that you respect and admire the most?

Jeanne Nohalty of Alley Cat Décor in Oak Park, Illinois.  She has an innate design sense, is unafraid of trying new things, and has a keen ability to listen to others’ design preferences and incorporate them into whatever she’s working on.

4) When looking for inspiration is there a particular thing you do to get inspired?

Since long before the days of Pinterest, I’ve been keeping a binder where I put design ideas.  I scour catalogs, magazines, and anything else I can get my hands on, and put those ideas in my binder.  Then, when I’m in need of some inspiration, I flip through my binder and see all of the things that I previously found beauty in.  It is a great way to remind myself of what I like, as opposed to what is trending on Pinterest and in my social media news feed.

5) What has brought you to this point in your career? And what is your advice for people looking to follow in your footsteps?

In 2013 I resigned from my job as an intellectual property attorney to raise my young children.  The need for something to call my own, and the ability to spend more time on my creative passions, led me to begin my blog and has brought me to where I am today.  I believe that anyone looking to do the same should be unafraid of making mistakes, taking risks, and learning all the time.
