1) In your own words describe your unique style and creative aesthetic?

I create patterns inspired by mid-century architecture, which are based upon my original paintings and pen and ink drawings, and feature bold colours and simple repeats.

2) When starting a new project, what is your creative process?

I start by taking a walk with my camera. I photograph buildings that interest me. I take these images back to my studio and work them up into paintings and drawings.

3) Out of the creative people you have worked with, who is it that you respect and admire the most?

This is really hard as there are so many! I have respect and admiration for anyone who is working really hard to achieve their dreams, and this is the case for most of us with small creative businesses. I’m particularly inspired by designers such as Jane Foster, who have successfully juggled their thriving businesses with their young families (as I aim to do!).

4) When looking for inspiration is there a particular thing you do to get inspired?

Trips out (mostly in London) are essential for me. A combination of architecture and visits to museums and galleries (I’m a member of Tate) are key to my inspiration.

5) What has brought you to this point in your career? And what is your advice for people looking to follow in your footsteps?

I left my day job in the City at the beginning of last year and have been concentrating on building my business full time ever since. I would advise people to remember what your initial dream was, work hard and don’t give up when times are tough (they will be!).
