Tamara Romeo is an interior designer and founder of San Diego Office Design, where she creates office environments that reflect a company’s brand. Tamara has spent decades helping brands to visualise their identity and encapsulate that identity within a fitting and effective office environment. She has a strong background in brand marketing and environmental psychology, which she has blended together to offer a fully inclusive service. 1) In your own words describe your unique style and creative aesthetic?
I love bringing stories alive in a visual way, especially in the places where people work. Where each of us invest our lives, our time, and our waking hours to making a difference, making a living, and crafting our futures.
2) When starting a new project, what is your creative process?
I start with learning as much as I can about the genesis of the company, the vision of it’s owner, and the direction they intend to head in the future. Together we create a visual expression of that story.
3) Out of the creative people you have worked with, who is it that you respect and admire the most?
I’ve worked with literally thousands of CEO’s, and have to say each one is a visionary in his or her own way. Each has their own reasons for dedicating their life (and finances) to a particular goal, and they take the risks to move that vision forward day after day, year after year. Great leaders of companies like Zappos and Dropbox inspire me to continue to grow, and to continue looking for new ways to push the boundaries of creative office design.
4) When looking for inspiration is there a particular thing you do to get inspired?
For me, everything in my environment can be an inspiration. Every restaurant, hotel lobby, conference room, cocktail lounge, boutique and bathroom is inspiring. I am supremely aware of my surroundings, and take photos of everything that makes me think ”wow, that’s great. How can I use that in my designs?”
5) What has brought you to this point in your career? And what is your advice for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
I am a constant student of life and design. Being in a mode of continual learning and growing is addictive to me. I believe one of the smartest things anyone can do is to be true to themselves, to their ‘story,’ and their own uniqueness, and then craft that story into their own personal brand.
