1) In your own words describe your unique style and creative aesthetic?
My style is natural, classic, with just hints of global and glam. I like to think of it as chic and well travelled.
2) When starting a new design project, what is your creative process?
I usually start with a pattern I love. A geo wallpaper could inspire angles on a lamp or side table. Gorgeous tiles could inspire a color story for a whole collection as well. I start searching for similar visuals and lay everything out to get a feel for what individual styles or collections could result.
3) Out of all the creative people you have worked with, who is it that you respect and admire the most?
I have such high regards for Megan Gilger of Wild Measure and The Fresh Exchange. She is so insightful to the the very feelings that inspire the backbone of design. Her travels, photography, and vision are all enviable and I am thankful to be able to consider her a colleague.
4) Is there a building that you find yourself revisiting repeatedly, because of it’s beautiful and inspiring interiors?
There isn’t a specific building, but more like a specific era. I love design and architecture from the early 20th century. Neutral colors, classic subway tile, rich woodwork, and high ceilings all inspire the overall design that I lean towards.
5) How did you get into interior design? And what is your advice for design students looking to follow in your footsteps?
I came at interiors from a product background. I am a product designer first, a lover of interiors second. Since I design products for the home, I have to be fluid in my mindset and aware of how my designs at the product level fit into the overall scheme of things. My advice for others would be to do what you enjoy most. I love working with my hands, so product development rings so true for me. My second piece of advice would be to work for a seasoned company or firm when starting out. You learn so much that is invaluable to a lifelong career.
