Staying at home on Valentine’s evening doesn’t have to a boring night sitting in front of the television! This year why not turn your evening into a romantic living-room picnic? It’s easy to do and far more romantic and cost effective than going out to eat in a restaurant.
Set the scene by using soft furnishings to make the room look special. A hearted shaped rug makes a change from a traditional picnic blanket and you’ll be able to leave it place to keep the romance going far beyond Valentine’s Day. If you don’t want to sit on the floor for your special picnic lap trays would make an ideal gift from which to eat your picnic food and gain can be used time and time again with fond memories of your unusual and special evening.
Add comfort to the place you’ll be sitting, either the floor or your sofa, by using a Valentine’s cushion in red or black – once again cushions can be put to good use after the event either by keeping them in your living room or using them as a romantic touch to your bedroom.
For those who are a little shy and find it difficult to say the right words or if you want to add a little fun to the evening cushions with words, such as ‘kiss’, can be used at appropriate moments.
Don’t forget to use scented candles or table lamps to create a romantic ambience in the room.
Once you’ve set the scene all that’s left to do is prepare your picnic food. Try something new rather than sandwiches, which are not really very romantic! Obviously choose foods which your partner love, and you can make them as ‘saucy’ as you like! Also try and choose foods which you can prepare in advance otherwise you’ll end up running in and out of the kitchen all evening rather than with your partner at the picnic.
Sitting on the floor eating great food, drinking and chatting, etc. is a great way to spend Valentine’s evening. If you think things may no go quite according to plan have a romantic film ready and snuggle up on the sofa together.
