In this post we’re going to take a look at how you can use the space in your loft to create a classy modern bedroom loft conversion. Note* You may need to hire a professional to undertake the conversion along with any planning permission that may apply to your home. This post is purely for interior design ideas and to give you some food for thought if you’re running out of space in your home.
As the majority of loft conversions have limited head space you’ll need to give careful consideration and forward planning on the type and size of furniture you use. Many contemporary style beds are king size or super king size, so you may need to shop around until you find a bed of a suitable size. There’s no problem with finding a range of plain and patterned double duvet covers, duvet cover sets or super king bedding to fit your large bed.
Colours are always important aspect of great interior design and as many loft conversions have limited light, typically via skylight style windows it may be wise to opt for white or pale tones which will help to make the room look brighter and more spacious. You can always have one of the walls as the accent by using patterned wallpaper in a modern or contemporary design.
You can also use a combination of old and new to create a classy bedroom in your loft. The current interior design trends of re-cycling can also be useful if you’re on a tight budget. Re-paint or dress-up chests of draws and dressing tables in your chosen colours, you could even leave them with a distressed finish – showing that new and old can sit comfortably side by side.
The window dressing you choose maybe somewhat limited, especially if you have skylight windows. Skylight roller blinds are a great option as they fit neatly into the window frame and glide neatly into place. Other great advantages of using these types of blinds include their ability to reduce heat build-up, which is often a problem in loft conversions, along with a blackout backing they help reduce the amount of early morning light entering the room. Of course, if you want to lay in bed and star gaze simply leave them pulled up to the top of the window!
Flooring also needs to be considered. Wooden or laminate flooring are popular choices for contemporary styled bedrooms. Use area rugs in your accent colour to bring balance and coordination to the room.
