Open plan home design is growing in popularity from one day to the next and we are bombarded with images of successfully decorated kitchen-diners, lounge-dining rooms and even open plan bedroom bathrooms. With modern country décor you can have a wonderful cosy, family-orientated home in a grand open plan layout – what more could you possibly want? Modern country décor has charm, many home comforts and a cheery outlook to design – get all the tips, advice and inspiration here with our round up of modern country décor.
· I am going to have to begin with open plan kitchen-diners when it comes to the modern country style – surely you can understand! Picture it covered in a light and airy cream – with nothing more in the way of colour. What makes it work is the addition of natural light woods – a central, chunky dining room table and modern country dining chairs for starters. The same tone of wood for worktops would go down a treat – as would wooden accessories in the form of picture frames, chopping boards, wooden curtain poles and window blinds.
· If you wanted to add colour top the aforementioned design, it is easily doable with table décor that can be brought in and out, rearranged and added to at will. It won’t take away that airy, uncluttered appearance that you tried so hard to get – but it will give it some more character. Artist’s pottery, tinted glasses, candlestick holders or even a large bowel of colourful fruits will help to add a shot of inspiring colour.
· Continuing a little further with open plan kitchen-diners, if you wanted to help define the dining area you can do it with pattern. The patterns you should eliminate from considering are overly bright or brash designs, metallic touches or complex patterns. We recommend selecting a few different patterns in a coordinating colour such as cool country blue or rustic green. A setting of four chairs could each have a different fabric – try a mix of stripes, subtle florals and gingham. Ground the dining table and chairs with block colour rugs that match or harmonize with your chosen colour palette.
· Moving on to the open plan lounge and how we can transform it to resemble the modern country style of decorating. A country inspired home should have some florals going on somewhere – we would place ours as a print on pencil pleat curtains, paired with a matching valance. You might want to rethink your heating source with this design if you wanted to make a statement – a traditional black stove has a rustic feel.
