The secret to any successful interior is to ask yourself and answer truthfully, how you would like your living space to make you feel. Once you have answered that fundamental question your quest to have the living space you really want to live in has begun!
If you want a warm and inviting interior where do you start?
The colour you select will have a huge impact on the finished ambience of your room. Warm and inviting evokes colours which sit on the colour wheel within these parameters. Warm colours are typically deep rich reds, burnt oranges, butter yellows along with subtle purples. Mix one of these colours with a warm base colour such as ivory or classical cream and the room will start to look inviting before you have even added any furniture!
Move over to the window and decide what type of window treatment you want which will sit comfortably with the warm and inviting style you are achieving. Full length ready made curtains are a perfect choice as they make a room look cosy and warm. Stick to within your warm colour scheme, bring in too many colours and the whole look will change.
Opt for fabrics which remind you of warm and inviting times, such as classical plaids, gorgeously rich Damasks and Jacquards. If you want to make the window a focal point try designer style swag and tails styled curtains hung from large diameter wooden curtain poles and use coordinating roller blinds so that you can leave the curtains swept open to retain their elegant styling. Pelmets are also a good option, more especially when they match the curtain fabric, curtain tracks with ‘built-in’ pelmet tracks are readily available to give you an easy to fit window dressing option.
Add homely touches such as piles of sumptuous cushions to snuggle into on chilly evenings. Add a coordinating or matching throw to bring the room together. Family portraits or photographs of the people and things you love are a great way to add your own individuality which makes a room feel inviting.
Soft lighting is another great option, bright overhead lights should be avoided and replaced with table lamps of varying sizes which will bring depth to your room. Remember just because you want to create a warm and inviting ambience does not mean you can fill the room with clutter! It’s a poor excuse for not putting things away in their rightful place and is the biggest ‘let-down’ you can give your interior style and the quickest way to let your efforts be fruitless!
