Since setting up in 2004, specialist coat hanger design company HookPegSupport have made something of a name for themselves as the mavericks of their chosen field. Their now somewhat iconic coat hangers have been features of many national and international magazines and publications including The Times Newspaper, Grand Designs Magazine, Vogue Bambini, Urbis, Easy Living, Metro and the Telegraph Newspaper. They have also been exhibited in numerous shows and cities around the world including Souvenirs of the 21st Century – Shanghai, Tent London – London, Milan Furniture Fair – Milan and L’Oreal Fashion Week – Toronto and have been heralded as a ‘Souvenir of the 21st Century’ and also as a ‘Future Design Classic’. HookPegSupport was founded and is run by Christopher Jarratt. After achieving his 1st Class Degree in 3D Design for Sustainability, Chris has worked extensively within the fields of Art and Design. Chris co-founded the Multi-Award winning design company; sixixis. sixixis specialized in making unique and bespoke Furniture, accessories like table lamps, mirror lamps and Sculptures out of locally sourced timber. All of the hangers are designed personally by Chris and are available in a number of different materials and finishes such as Acrylic, Steel and Stainless Steel.
The CityScape coat hanger range was Chris’s original set of hangers. Made from the highest quality FSC & PEFC Registered Birch Plywood, the CityScape hangers have a hard wearing water based finish applied to them so whether they are merely to hang on your wall as a piece of Art or are being used every day, they promise to last much longer than some of your dodgy fashion choices!
The Original Set depicts the five major fashion and design cities of the world- London, New York, Paris, Tokyo and Milan. However the ever expanding range now boasts many more iconic destinations and if the city you want to hang is not already available Chris also offers a bespoke service where your favourite skyline can be uniquely re-imagined in his inimitable way.
HPS now also sells personalised company logo hangers which have been a massive success.
Something of a mad scientist, Chris is constantly trying out new ideas, designs, shapes and materials- with some experiments proving more successful than others! So if you have an idea for a design, or if you want Chris and the gang to come up with something entirely new and just for you, he implores (if not challenges) you to get in touch and put your imagination and their skills to the test.
For other unusual hanger, pegs and stands a great website to check out is www.utilitydesign.co.uk. This ultra trendy stockist of all things home related has lots of mad and majestic hanging devices from the aptly named Cardiograph which resembles that jagged line that beeps and generally means you’re still alive if you’re an extra in ER or Casualty, to the now classic piece of Charles Eames designed home kit called Hang It All. For elegance and understated cool however, my favourite has to be the Tree Coat Stand. A stylised tree design where the branches make the hangers, this design is my tip to become a future classic.
