1) In your own words describe your unique style and creative aesthetic?

I’m inspired by design of the 1940’s and 1950’s; I love colour, curved lines, print, classic design and a sprinkle of good old-fashioned glamour!

2) When starting a new project, what is your creative process?

I’ll start off gathering inspirational imagery to determine the general aesthetic, line, silhouette and form, figure out a colour palette that mixes some neutrals, brights and highlight colours. I’ll look at any key prints, textures, fabrics, trims, and begin sketching...

3) Out of the creative people you have worked with, who is it that you respect and admire the most?

When I was 19 years old I packed a rucksack and jumped on a plane to New York City to undertake an internship with designer Maria Cornejo. Maria’s style is streamlined and sculptured with clever yet simplistic creative pattern cutting. Although Maria’s style is a million miles away from my own, Maria’s work maintains design in it’s purest form, from the sketches she creates in her studio, the fabric she selects each season, to the on site pattern cutter and garments being made in a humble NYC factory.

4) When looking for inspiration is there a particular thing you do to get inspired?

I’m inspired by my travels, rummaging in vintage and antique shops, old postcards, books and advertising. I love to take inspiration from old things and turn them into something beautiful that is suitable for the modern day women.

5) What has brought you to this point in your career? And what is your advice for people looking to follow in your footsteps?

Hustle! Seriously. Currently I’m editing The Fabulous Times blog and working as Head of Design for an independent vintage inspired clothing brand. The best piece of advice I could give to any young designer or creative no matter what their field is to be resilient, prepare yourself to hustle.
