Kathy Russell is the founder and owner of the Butler Girl Services, a concierge and organisation business, based in Toronto, Ontario. Kathy has extensive experience in the corporate world, which has shaped her approach to organizing and staying on top of disorder. It is her goal to offer her clients a stress free approach to organising. She also holds three certifications in Personal Concierge through IAP College, National Concierge Association and International Concierge & Lifestyle Management Association. 1) In your own words describe your unique style and creative aesthetic?
My approach is to keep the client engaged and part of the process. I listen to the little things they mention, and then incorporate it in space. Clients are always, like “OMG, how did you know I like this”.
2) When starting a new project, what is your creative process?
Understanding how the client got to where they are with the clutter. Once I get that, my creative juices just flow in my mind. It’s like my brain is wired to take clutter and transform their space, to a place they love again.
3) Out of the creative people you have worked with, who is it that you respect and admire the most?
I admire Laurie Martinez of Simply Neat LTD, she is an amazing professional organizer. She is always willing to share her experience and expertise. I am grateful to have connected with her over 4 years ago. She runs a great organizer business and her clients love her!
4) When looking for inspiration is there a particular thing you do to get inspired?
When I am looking for inspiration, I research online, read a lot of organizing books and take educational courses, to keep on top of growing trends and ideas. This works for me because I am always thinking of the next step and where I need and want to be.
5) What has brought you to this point in your career? And what is your advice for people looking to follow in your footsteps?
After spending over two decades in the corporate world, I decide I wanted to do something that I love to do. Help people get their lives back in order. I wish I would have started much sooner. My advice to people is, do your research, talk to people in the field, take courses and find a mentor. Love what you do and always give back!
