1) In your own words describe your unique style and creative aesthetic?

My firm is highly influenced by the culture and authenticity of Austin. I incorporate edgy elements and love to make clients comfortable outside of their comfort zone.

2) When starting a new project, what is your creative process?

I find something in a client’s home that they are drawn to and ask, “Do you love it?” If so, I use that piece as my muse and let the design flourish from there.

3) Out of the creative people you have worked with, who is it that you respect and admire the most?

Over the past decade I’ve worked with dozens of builders, installers and upholsterers. I now only do business with a handful, because our values of consistency and quality match up. I have a go-to upholsterer for custom drapery and another for reupholstered cushions and furniture. I’m so impressed by the artistic abilities and creativity of these women. They are “yes people” and have never turned down a project, regardless of the complexity.

4) When looking for inspiration is there a particular thing you do to get inspired?

I don’t pressure myself to make split decisions. Sometimes my mind needs rest and I trust that something great will come. I keep a pen and notepad on my bedside table, so when an idea hits, I can quickly jot it down. Honestly, some of my greatest designs have come about this way.

5) What has brought you to this point in your career? And what is your advice for people looking to follow in your footsteps?

I opened Robin Bond Interiors in 2003 and have experienced my share of ups and downs along with the economy. In our field, you must have perseverance, “giving up” is not an option. Stick to your founding values and never stray from them no matter how difficult it may be at times.
