1) What pieces of furniture have impressed you recently? And Why?

I am really loving the PS 2014 collection at IKEA. There are a lot of fun pieces that are really inexpensive and add a fun pop to a room. I also love seeing a really bright chair or side table to really bring some color into a room. I hate painting so I keep my walls neutral and bring in color with artwork, furniture, or textiles.

2) What colours are on trend right now? And Why?

As much as I love color, I am always drawn to grey. All my walls and furniture are grey, it’s so much easier to complement with colors. I’m not sure if they are “on trend” but I am always drawn to aquas and teals, especially paired with reds. I also am loving bright yellows and oranges.

3) What types of materials are on trend right now and Why?

I have been seeing a lot of wood combined with plastic or acrylic which I love. Having the more modern, sleek material paired with the more natural wood gives a great contrast and still feels modern. I’ve been seeing other natural materials such as concrete which is also a neat accent. And bright, geometric fabrics are always my favorite.

4) Which of your projects embodies the latest design trend? And why?

I think the design trend I have most embraced is the geometric trend. I love that cross stitch translates so well into geometric patterns. I spent quite a bit of time focusing on geometric cross stitches but have moved away from it lately, but with patterns becoming a bigger trend I want to revisit them and choose new color schemes. My favorite pattern of the geometric trend is hexagons and it has hit the quilting community hard. A traditional quilting technique has been completely transformed into a more modern art by using bright colors and modern fabrics and I absolutely love it! I am working on a quilt as well as a set of throw pillows for my sofa.
