Interior design ideas – looking forward to christmas – guest rooms

Today we're going to take a look at guest rooms and once again remind you that you need to consider carrying out a make-over now rather than leaving to the last minute and start panicking! Guest rooms play an integral role in making your guests feel welcomed into your home. Start by clearing out the clutter that seems to gravitate towards guest rooms. A tidy room shows that your guests are wanted, rather than being squeezed into your home.

Light, airy and fresh are the key elements. If you don't have time to completely re-decorate take the easy route and focus your efforts on making the bed comfortable, having an appropriate and adequate window dressing, along with storage space. Replace duvet cover sets with new, using neutral colours so that they blend with your décor. Neatly fold bed throws and place across the foot of the bed – this will give your guests the choice of an extra layer of bedding if they need it and hopefully stop any grumbling about being cold!

Take a look at your window dressing – if you live in a town or city consider blackout window blinds to use as the sole window dressing or team with pencil pleat curtains. To help save on your fuel bills thermal blinds are another great window dressing option and may also help to keep your guests comfortably warm and draught free. For guest rooms which are in loft conversions Keylight blinds are the perfect choice of window dressing which also have blackout properties. Make sure your guests have a small table to place books and glasses etc. along with a bedside table lamp.

Tea making facilities, simply put a small kettle, cups and saucers etc. onto a wooden tray, if you know your guests are early risers! To add a festive look to the room fairy lights draped around the headboard give a whimsical look which will be appreciated by younger guests, while older guests will appreciate having a stylish potted miniature tree or potted poinsettia on the dressing table. Colour coordinate your decorations to suit the décor in the room.

Try and think of little finishing touches you know your guests will like or complained about the lack of last time they stayed! Towels laid on the bottom of the bed add a personal touch if your guest room doesn't have an en-suite – it's the little details than can help you relax and your guests feel welcomed.
